AQUATERRAS
Based on over 140 years of R&D and inspired by innovations in medical science, Nippon Paint Marine’s AQUATERRAS range of coating technology has set new benchmarks for sustainable hull protection; the world’s first biocide-free fouling protection coating proven to achieve fuel and emissions savings of up to 14.7% with an average speed loss of 1% over 60 months.
Engineered for a wide range of applications, from coastal to oceangoing vessels, as well as newbuilds during outfitting, marine structures, power stations, and offshore units – now available in a low-VOC formulation.
LAUNCHING AQUATERRAS 1100
With a commitment to continuous R&D and innovation, Nippon Paint Marine is launching its latest product in the AQUATERRAS range. AQUATERRAS 1100, a next-generation, low VOC, biocide-free, Advanced Fouling Control (AFC), ideally suited for container liners, pure car carriers, and other medium-to high-activity vessels.

100% Biocide-free
Delivering fouling resistance without the use of harmful chemicals and available in low VOC to protect the marine environment and ocean ecology. AQUATERRAS 1100's biocide-free formulation creates a super-smooth and extremely flat surface in comparison to the rough surfaces of copper or cuprous oxide-based products.
Long lasting fouling protection
Using landmark HydroPhix™ technology, AQUATERRAS 1100 combines hydrophilic and hydrophobic micro-domain structures that reduce the ability of marine organisms to attach to a hull's surface.
Advanced Fouling Control (AFC)
AQUATERRAS 1100, Advanced Fouling Control (AFC), is a revolutionary technology that prevents fouling through surface innovation without relying on biocides. Its unique silicone-modified binder creates a smooth, glossy finish that reduces hull resistance and enables measurable fuel savings. The high-strength paint film provides long-lasting durability and resistance to mechanical damage, maintaining consistent performance even under harsh operating conditions. With no pure silicone and zero oil contamination risk, it offers easy application in dry-dock and newbuilding projects, and the same workability as conventional antifouling coatings, and is fully compatible with ROV cleaning.
Dual action self-renewal and self-smoothing mechanism for constant high performance
Incorporating HydroCure™ mechanism, AQUATERRAS 1100 provides a breakthrough in hull coating performance by mimicking a natural renewal process. Its advanced formulation features a dynamic surface layer that refreshes with a thin hydrolysed layer, continuously exposing a fresh active surface to prevent marine growth. At the same time, its self-smoothing matrix maintains optimal hull smoothness and reduces hydrodynamic drag.
